What you need to know about elite shows

All mares that have previously been assessed accordingly by the Mare Commission are admitted to the Elite Show. Presentation at the Elite Show is also one of the requirements for the award of the State Premium title. In the concluding final ring, the champion mare and the reserve champion of the year are determined.

Mares that participate in the Westphalian breeding programme but belong to a different breed are initially awarded a state premium entitlement and must produce a Westphalian-registered foal by the end of their sixth year in order to be awarded the title.

Elite show for riding horse mares, German riding pony mares and small German riding horse mares

The Elite Show for mares registered in the stud books of the breeds Westphalian Riding Horse, German Riding Pony and Small German Riding Horse takes place every year during the Westphalia Week in Münster-Handorf. Admission to the Elite Show takes place at the previous decentralised and centralised mare show and mare performance test dates.

Riding horse mares must pass a mare performance test with a minimum score of 7.0 at the latest at the age of five in order to be awarded the state premium title.

Elite show for cold-blooded mares

The elite show for cold-blooded mares takes place as part of the NRW Cold Blood Day, which is held alternately in Münster-Handorf and Wickrath. All cold-blooded mares that have been approved by the commission at one of the decentralised inspection dates or as part of the studbook inspection taking place on the same day may take part in the Westphalian and Rhineland Elite Show.

Elite show for Haflinger and thoroughbred Haflinger mares

The elite show for Haflinger and thoroughbred Haflinger mares takes place at the Handorf Haflinger Days. Admission to the elite show cannot be decentralised, but can only take place directly via the studbook admission that takes place beforehand.

Elite show for other breeds

The breed showcase for all other breeds is the Handorf Small Horse Day. On this day, the elite show will also take place for the mares that have been nominated by the commission for the state premium title.
