As the training and sales center of the Westphalian Horse Stud Book, the Westphalian Horse Center is the center for a wide range of activities related to the Westphalian horse. From training to exam and auction preparation to successful marketing or as a venue for a wide variety of events: there is always something going on in our modern and newly renovated facility.
Everything here revolves around horses and ponies.
Young horses in particular find space here for their first steps in training, for the next stages of their development and for sale. Our aim is to provide age-appropriate, horse-orientated training in accordance with the principles of the classical training scale. A team of experienced trainers and grooms looks after the welfare of all horses. Our modern facility, which was renovated in 2022, has around 100 spacious boxes, paddocks and pastures, two indoor arenas, a horse walker, a racetrack, several outdoor riding arenas and a grass arena for shows. Furthermore, the cooperation with the neighbouring Westphalian Riding and Driving School provides additional space, which complements and expands the area of young horse training in particular.
The centre
The Westphalian Equestrian Centre is located on the outskirts of Münster in a natural setting. The convenient location close to the A1 and A43 motorways makes it easy to get here. Our facility was renovated in 2022 and is still being modernised to offer our guests and horses the best possible conditions.
Our modern and spacious facility fulfils the requirements for good, horse-friendly training and preparation for your horses' future tasks. Every box in the modernised stable aisles now has a large outside window. The boxes are bright and have good air circulation. Each box also has a saddle locker.
There are also numerous washing and grooming areas within the stables. Each of them is equipped with non-slip rubber mats. Tying up on both sides and sufficient space for the quality and safety of horses, grooms and riders are part of our standards. Each stable aisle also has a height-adjustable solarium. Especially in the cold winter months, our training and auction horses enjoy the luxury of the solarium after their work is done.
Impressions
Our two indoor riding arenas offer perfect riding comfort. The smaller riding hall (dimensions: 20 x 60 metres) has been recently renovated, is bright and inviting and is primarily used for daily work and as a preparation hall for events.
The larger riding hall (dimensions: 25 x 70m) serves as our auction and event hall, where we organise our own and external events several times a year. It is used for day-to-day work at the equestrian centre. This hall was also recently renovated and is bright and inviting thanks to a new roof with a ridge of light. In addition to the grandstands that surround the riding area, there is a casino that serves as a meeting and event venue. A floor with an ebb and flow system installed a few years ago offers optimal conditions both for everyday use and during events.
In Handorf, we attach great importance to good soil care. That's why we drag and water our floors every day. A specialist company regularly supports us in levelling the hall floors. This enables us to continuously guarantee optimum floor conditions for training, shows and competitions.
There are a total of four outdoor riding arenas on our premises, most of which are used for specific disciplines. The large jumping arena (dimensions: 60 x 80m) and the warm-up arena (dimensions: 50 x 60m) are equipped with Kirchheller sand. The dressage arena (dimensions: 40 x 70 metres) has an ebb and flow system. There is also a separate dressage warm-up arena (dimensions: 25 x 70 metres).
The outdoor arenas are surrounded by an extensive racecourse, which is also a popular part of the daily work with the horses at the Westphalian Horse Centre.
The facility is completed by a horse walker with space for six horses. Meadows are available from spring to autumn for the horses to go out, while the sand paddocks can be used all year round. Horses are generally turned out individually onto neighbouring meadows and paddocks.
