What you need to know
Mares that are used for breeding must be entered in the corresponding section of the respective breeding programme. Mares from other associations can also be entered in the studbook of the Westphalian Studbook.
In addition, studbook entries from other associations and, if applicable, existing premium titles can be adopted.
The sections of the studbook (Studbook I, Studbook II, Appendix, Prebook) differ in particular in the pedigree requirements and the minimum standards of conformation. The exact requirements are defined in the breeding programme of the respective horse breed.
The studbook recordings are carried out during mare shows, mare performance tests, farm appointments or, in exceptional cases, by video recording.
The following assessment criteria are graded at registration:
- Breed and sex type
- Quality of conformation
- Correctness of gait
- Walk
- Trot
- Overall impression
If the mare is entered at a mare show or in the context of a mare performance test, a linear description is also drawn up.
The mares are presented to the commission standing (conformation assessment), at the walk from the front and rear (assessment of the correctness of the gait) and on the triangular track at the trot (assessment of the trot). Finally, the horse is presented in the walk ring (assessment of the walk). After the walk ring, the registration result will be announced.
Registration for the mare show can be made via WestfalenOnline or by e-mail to stutenschauanmeldung(ät)westfalenpferde.de.
Premiums
Mares with special individual or hereditary performance can receive a premium title in addition to the studbook entry.
Some premiums can only be awarded at a mare show (or elite show) or at the studbook entry as part of the mare performance test:
- Association premium mare (all breeds)
- State premium mare (all breeds, only 3- and 4-year-olds)
- Premium m are (all breeds except riding horse, Icelandic horse, Black Forest and South German cold blood)
Other premiums can be awarded independently of an evaluation by the commission:
- Westphalian main premium (riding horse and German riding pony)
- Performance m are (riding horse and German Riding Pony)
- Elite m are (all breeds except Icelandic horse, Black Forest and South German coldblood, South German coldblood and Black Forest coldblood)
