Handorf Small Horse Day 2025 a Resounding Success

The Handorf Small Horse Day 2025 can be considered a complete success. A total of around 100 ponies from various small horse breeds were presented during the foal and elite show held in the triangle arena of the Westphalian Horse Centre. In sunshine and pleasant temperatures, many spectators enjoyed the beautifully presented ponies, many of which were shown by enthusiastic children and young breeders.

Eight champion sashes and numerous gold awards were presented as part of the Westphalian Foal Championship. The event began Saturday morning with the Welsh pony ring. In Section A, Lohburgs Ari KB by Latroptals Atze out of BLD Freddie Mercury (breeder and owner: Stefan Büermann, Bakum) was named champion foal. In Section B, breeder and exhibitor Philipp Schulte from Neuenrade was delighted to receive the champion sash for his filly by Calido-G out of Courage. The Chery Jamiro daughter Chery Rhibana, out of a mare by Thorndonpark Harry (breeder and owner: Rosenthal family, Siegen), won the Welsh D foal ring.
The champion foal among Shetland ponies under 87 cm was the filly Imilia vom Burgblick by Krummhörns Elmar out of Sander van de Hoefslag (breeder and owner: Petra Stöbel-Masuch, Schieder-Schwalenberg). In the over 87 cm category, Dave K by Diablo v. Willem's Hof out of Wesley v. Stal van Aschberg (breeder and owner: Torsten and Claudia Kipp, Hille) won the final ring.
In the competition of the German Part-Bred Shetland Ponies under 87 cm, the young filly Pia by Pilgrim vom Jägerkrug out of Dajas Otto (breeder and owner: Mensing family, Heek-Nienborg) was victorious. The colt Winz vom Hessehof by Wolly out of Special Effort's Naughty Doll (breeder and owner: Sarah Hesse, Marsberg) took home the champion sash in the German Part-Bred Shetland Ponies over 87 cm.
The champion sash for foals of the German Classic Ponies breed this year went to Jule vom Kleefeld by John Deere von Krummesse out of Jamil v. Moritzberg (breeder and owner: Reinhard Cramer, Herscheid).
At the subsequent elite show for 3- and 4-year-old mares, the judging commission led by breeding director Katrin Tosberg awarded premium titles and selected the champion mares of each breed. Champion mare among Shetland ponies under 87 cm was the three-year-old Roxy v. Stal Marhé by Made in Holland v.d. Parkant out of Vanity van de Buxushof (breeder: M.P.A.T. Kusters, MEGEN, Netherlands; owner: Lutz Gester and Barbara Gester-Wilms, Herscheid). In the over 87 cm Shetland pony category, the three-year-old Rosanna v. Stal het Noordereind by Holland v. Ruimzicht out of Nelantines v.d. groote woerd (owner: Regina Becker, Twistetal) stood out among the competition. In addition to the two champion mares, five other Shetland pony mares received the state premium or were named state premium candidates.
The champion sash in the German Part-Bred Shetland Pony ring went to the four-year-old daughter of German B out of a mare by Gerrit B, Blümchen von der Fähr (breeder: Niemann family, Estorf; owner: Petra Niemann, Estorf). This mare, along with another, also received the state premium title.
Kira von Dusenschuren by Kalif vom Kleefeld out of Brento (breeder and owner: Julia Wirth, Attendorn) was named the four-year-old champion mare and newly crowned state premium mare of the German Classic Ponies.
The highly coveted state premium title also went to the champion mare in the mixed ring of Welsh and Connemara breeds – Vandora by Leybuchts Vivaldi out of Elferink's Winsor (breeder: Focke family, Metelen; owners: Heike and Michael Recker), who, incidentally, won the champion foal sash in the Welsh section a few years ago.
