Münster: The Handorf Auction Festival kicked off today. 22 show jumpers, 8 jumping youngsters and two jumping-orientated broodmares were up for sale at the Westphalian Studbook's OnLive Auction. With a total turnover of 535,000 euros, 28 of the horses on offer found a new owner. The highest priced ridden horse was the Untouchable son Urus SR Z with a hammer price of 38,000 euro. Among the unridden youngsters, Albus Dumbledore by Arezzo VDL was particularly popular.
The Westphalian Studbook had announced an unprecedented three-day auction festival. This event kicked off this evening with the auction of show jumpers and jumping youngsters. The lot was completed by two broodmares in foal. The festival is embedded in the German Amateur Championships, which are being held in Münster-Handorf for the fourth time. More than 500 guests were seated in the auction hall of the Westphalian Studbook following the entry of the regions.
The most popular offer of the evening with the head number 111 was Urus SR Z. The Belgian son of Untouchable/Elvis ter Putte (breeder and exhibitor: Stefan Ratajczak, Leipzig) already achieved numerous successes in young horse jumping competitions. His granddam Uomini by Montebella la Silla produced four show jumping horses, successful in CSIO competitions. The five-year-old gelding changed hands online for the hammer price of 38,000 euros. The same customer, who is based in the neighbourhood of the Westphalian Studbook in Münster, also won the bid for the second most expensive horse of the evening for 35,000 euro. Hello Beauty (breeder: ZG Audenaerde-Calle, Belgium; exhibitor: BG Rump, Drantum) attracted attention with the head number 113. The daughter of Baggio/Lord Z is a half-sister to Inola, who is highly successful in international CSI competitions for Norway.
The auction kicked off with the champion mare of this year's Westphalian Elite Show with the head number 101. Acapulco by Aviador (breeder: Heinrich and Philipp Sterthoff, Hamm; exhibitor: Heinrich Sterthoff, Hamm) is a daughter of St.Pr.St. Contess by Cornet Obolensky, who was also crowned Champion Mare at the 2009 Westphalian Elite Show. She also produced the Diamant De Semilly son Dracos. The now six-year-old, who once found new owners through a Westphalian foal auction, is now successful in show jumping competitions up to medium level under the saddle of Hendrik Dowe. His sister Acapulco found her new owners in Germany today at a hammer price of 34,000 euros.
Of the 22 riding horses on offer, 19 changed hands this evening. With an average price of 23,079 euro, they turned over 438,500 euro. Six of the horses sold broke the 30,000 euro mark in the hammer price
Of the eight unridden youngsters offered for sale, seven changed hands at an average price of 10,500 euros. The highest price was achieved here. The head number 115 Albus Dumbledore by Arezzo VDL (breeder: G.J. Bosch, Netherlands; exhibitor: Hendrik Zurich, Schüttorf). His dam Cora by Chacco's Son II is the full sister to the licensed Chacco's Light, who was internationally successful in advanced level show jumping competitions with Maurice Tebbel and Cian O'Connor. The two-year-old stallion was worth 15,000 euros to his new owners this evening. The two broodmares that completed this jumping lot found new owners this evening at an average price of €7,250.
With the 28 horses sold in tonight's auction opening, the Westphalian Studbook realised a total turnover of 535,000 euro. Nine of the auction candidates sold will continue their careers outside of Germany.
The auction continues on Saturday with a lot of around 30 foals, which will be auctioned off in the outdoor arena starting at 6 pm. The Handorf Auction Festival will conclude on Sunday at 2 pm with the OnLive Auction of dressage horses and dressage youngsters.
