Book "Pferdeland Westfalen"

SCROLL

"Life is not a pony farm"? Not at all - this saying does not apply to Westphalia. Whether as working animals, leisure companions or for equestrian sports - horses have always characterised the region.
The flat plains of the Westphalian bay offer ideal conditions for the successful breeding and keeping of these popular four-legged friends.
In the past, Westphalia was known for its wild pastures, where horses were mostly left to their own devices.
Only the Dülmener and Senner horses can still be seen in the region today.
This is where photographer Tuula Kainulainen begins her photographic journey through the horse country of Westphalia.
In six thematic blocks and around 260 fascinating photographs, she portrays breeding, different forms of use, the colourful interaction at riding facilities and professions for the benefit of the horse. Shots of drag hunts, stallion parades and wild horse trapping complete the volume.
With great empathy, Tuula Kainulainen is always right in the centre of the scenes she captures. People and horses trust her and allow her to participate in their interactions.
Hermann-Josef Höper has written a historical context as well as short introductions to the six themed chapters.
